Peri-implantitis continues to be one of the most significant long-term challenges in implant dentistry - the importance of prevention, not just treatment, has never been greater.

Research points to several key factors that negatively influence peri-implant health:

# Issue Impact
1 Implant surface roughness near the top of the implant Exposure of the tissue to the rough surface
2 Connections that result in emergence profile of 30° or greater Double the incidence of peri-implantitis
3 Uneven ridge contours force sub-crestal placement Assures bone loss to implant–abutment junction
4 Angled MUAs have emergence profiles that can approach 90° Complicates oral hygiene

When these elements are thoughtfully considered during assessment of implant systems, the risk of inflammation and bone loss around implants can be meaningfully reduced.

Most implant companies advocate for subcrestal placement to avoid exposure of the rough surface, rather than design the implant with a smooth collar, sacrificing good bone, complicating cleanability, and compromising a proper emergence profile.

At Paragon, our product development reflects these clinical realities. Our implant systems incorporate:

1. A machined-anodized collar design, providing vertical flexibility and reducing the risk of exposure, which can be particularly advantageous when managing uneven ridges

2. Six implant diameters and two color-coded platform diameters to reduce the emergence angle improving cleanability

3. Fully tapered implants that increase stability and facilitate placement of shorter implants rather than angled implants that require angle correcting abutments which are difficult to clean

By minimizing rough surface exposure in the collar region, this design supports healthier soft-tissue interaction, reduces plaque accumulation, and facilitates improved hygiene access—key factors in peri-implantitis prevention.

In addition, Paragon implants are engineered with:

  • Optimized implant–abutment connections designed to reduce micro-movement and bacterial infiltration
  • Surface technologies that promote predictable osseointegration while respecting crestal bone and soft-tissue stability
  • Prosthetic solutions focused on restorative accuracy and long-term maintenance

Rather than focusing solely on managing peri-implantitis after it occurs, we believe thoughtful implant design and restorative planning play a critical role in helping clinicians reduce risk from the outset—especially in anatomically challenging cases.

We would welcome the opportunity to share how Paragon’s implant solutions can support your clinical goals and contribute to long-term peri-implant health for your patients.
